“ADORN” Melody Armstrong’s Artist Statement
ADORN is my journey of capturing the essence and sensuality of organic forms, botanical subjects, reproductive parts of plants and human physiology and then using my own interpretations to bring that aesthetic to life using illustration, metal, photography, and paint.
One medium influences the next step in my creative process of repetitive succession of this form. In observing the reflections, sparkle, glint, preciousness, colors, contrasts and textures in the photograph of the jewellery object and experimenting with light and shadow, I am then inspired to paint these wonderful forms, giving them a dynamic perspective of a much larger scale than the original version.
My intentions for these forms are to ADORN the body, to display their attractiveness, to make ourselves more attractive and more sensual.
These paintings ADORN our personal spaces and evoke emotion and stimulate our environments.
The exquisiteness of these jewellery objects inspire me to explore these stages of transformation, giving birth to my artistic expression to arrive at these awe-inspiring images. Thereby challenging what is art and what is craft, and connecting functional and non-functional art.
