BIOGRAPHY CURRICULUM VITAE

I am a Canadian metal artist who designs and creates precious art to adorn the body. In 1999 I graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design with Honors, majoring in Jewellery and Metal. Working with sterling silver, anodized titanium, patinas, semiprecious and precious stones, and gold, I create jewellery that is influenced by nature, architecture, and fashion. My Design philosophy of organic infused with industrial is demonstrated through a mix of natural shapes and geometric structures, with great attention to detail and quality of workmanship. My style is best described as Industrial-Organic.

I now reside in Regina, Saskatchewan where I maintain a wonderful studio and am a part time Jewellery Instructor at the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre. One of my Jewellery pieces “Propagation” has been selected to be part of the Saskatchewan Craft Council’s touring exhibition, Dimensions “Growth” 2008. The juried show features 35 fine craft pieces created by Saskatchewan Artists and will open at the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina and travel to various galleries till December 2009.
My other passion is for painting and I recently had a solo exhibition at Mysteria Gallery in Regina. The show titled “Adorn” featured acrylic and oil paintings on canvas accompanied by sculptural jewellery objects.

“ADORN” Artist Statement

ADORN is my journey of capturing the essence and sensuality of organic forms, botanical subjects, reproductive parts of plants and human physiology and then using my own interpretations to bring that aesthetic to life using illustration, metal, photography, and paint.

One medium influences the next step in my creative process of repetitive succession of this form. In observing the reflections, sparkle, glint, preciousness, colors, contrasts and textures in the photograph of the jewellery object and experimenting with light and shadow, I am then inspired to paint these wonderful forms, giving them a dynamic perspective of a much larger scale than the original version.

My intentions for these forms are to ADORN the body, to display their attractiveness, to make ourselves more attractive and more sensual.
These paintings ADORN our personal spaces and evoke emotion and stimulate our environments.

The exquisiteness of these jewellery objects inspire me to explore these stages of transformation, giving birth to my artistic expression to arrive at these awe-inspiring images. Thereby challenging what is art and what is craft, and connecting functional and non-functional art.
